From innovative dosage forms to alternative administration routes, the 5th European Conference on Pharmaceutics – held on 24–25 March 2025 in Porto – was a showcase of forward-thinking in modern therapeutics. Under the theme “Innovative dosage forms and advanced technologies for modern therapeutics”, the conference highlighted innovative research on this topic.
Key themes included innovative dosage forms, biologics, alternative administration routes, and the integration of AI in pharmaceutical development. A strong focus was placed on translating fundamental research into real-world industrial applications, with sessions highlighting advancements in oral drug delivery, personalised medicine, and continuous manufacturing processes.
The BUCCAL-PEP team was well-represented at the event, presenting exciting new findings of the project.
Margarida Sacramento, PhD Student at the University of Aveiro, shared her experience: “I presented the latest and most important results of my work regarding the adhesion capacity and the release capacity of our mucoadhesive film. We are developing a mucoadhesive film that matches both the mucoadhesive and good release properties necessary for building a buccal film for the release of the GLP-1 analogue peptide. Regarding the conference, I think that it was amazing to present my work. Additionally, overall, the small presentations were of excellent quality.”
